The History of the Hot Tub

The earliest known hot tubs date back to the 4th century BC – they were basins called calderas, filled with water heated with the help of hot stones or located close to heat sinks and filled with water through ducts directly from the heat sinks.. As humans have always been fascinated with soaking in hot water, the thermal springs around the world were always popular and they were used with systems initially developed for the calderas.

The first modern hot tubs were developed based on the experiences of soldiers returning from Japan after WWII – it was their stories about the Japanese baths that inspired the first tub. The first tubs were made from wood, but the material’s sensitivity to the prolonged exposure to moisture called for the use of new materials. In the 1970’s, wooden hot tub shells were replaced with more durable fiberglass and that was when the first filters and pumps were added, too. Acrylic tubs appeared in the 1980’s and became instantly popular due to their enhanced durability and lightweight construction.

Hot tubs keep evolving in our days too – more accessories, more jets and more comfortable ways to test and maintain the quality of the water in the tub are being added constantly for every user’s delight.  If you are looking for luxury hot tubs Denver shops offer look to Wind River Spas in Denver.
