What Is the Best Way to Drain a Hot Tub?

find out how drain hot tub talk with spa dealerDraining your hot tub might seem like a straightforward task. A lot of people just let the water flow out onto their lawns and that’s basically like getting two rabbits with one stone. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. The water from your hot tub actually contains harmful chemicals which, when allowed to enter your soil, can end up harming your grass or even killing it.

The best way to drain a hot tub is to allow the water to flow into the sewage system. You can do that by using one of three methods:

  1. You can try attaching a spigot and a hose to the area where the hot tub’s drainage hole is (if it has one). Once you’re done connecting the hose, it will be easy to control where the water flows so long as the direction is downhill.
  2. Another popular method involves the use of submersible pumps. These pumps will be the answer to draining your water uphill if, for example, your home is located at the top of a tall hill and gravity becomes a hindrance.
  3. A backwash hose is not too common, but it will also do the job. First make sure that you have a filter that can be backwashed, and then you can simply connect your backwash hose, turn the dial to “drain” and let the water drain out into the sewer.  As with anything asking the right professionals at Wind River Spas is the best way to learn the ins and outs of hot tub care.
